Clash of Clans, or Clash of the Clans, often shortened to CotC is an annual Tournament mainly focused on Clans, once a year, Clans gather around to compete for exclusive Clash of Clans prizes by collecting as many Trophies as possible. In spite of being highly praised, specially by larger Clans, the Tournament is met with harsh controversies and criticism regarding the fairness of the Tournament.

As for 26th of February, 2020, CotC has been suspended, check 9th Clan Tournament for more information.

Information and Rules

The Tournament relies on the collection of Trophies Trophy, the more Trophies collected, the highest the chance of winning, though, to make it fair for smaller Clans, the team MUST have four members of the same Clan and as for April 1st, 2019, Clan-Hopping and single member Clans are NOT allowed.[1]That is:

  • If a Clan member suddenly leaves a ruled out Clan to join a new Clan to stay in game;
  • If a Clan is made up by a Main Account with multiple Vikings from the same account;

It will results in the disqualification, as for the bottom if, additional actions will be done. Prior to the start of Week 2, to prevent unsupervised Clan Hopping, the 4 representative members of a Clan MUST write their Clan Name, Account Name and Viking Name in a special thread that will be done when the Top 8 Clans have been gathered.[1]

All Clans of any size are allowed to participate though, the Trophies collected will only start counting to the overall right at the start of the first Round/Week, any Trophies earned before hand won't add to the counter.[2] The Tournament won't stop no matter the timezone, so it's advised to have members from around the globe to keep the Trophies counter going. The Trophy earning also contains a special mechanism:

It is fair game when it comes to participating in small or large membered Clans, as the average of the total number of members and number of trophies gathered will be counted. Therefore, leaving an equal chance for both small or large clans to take the win.

The average number of collected trophies are divided by the average number of ACTIVE Members, for example:

Now dividing 350 trophies collected)/4 (active members) gives 87.5 points, but because Player D didn't collected trophies at all, there's a higher chance he can be eliminated, decreasing the average number of active players to 3, giving 116 points. A technique used in Clash of Clans was if Player A and B (100 and 200 Trophy respectively) go to another Clan with Player E and F who won 150 and 250 Trophy respectively, the chances of winning would increase as the total would grow to 700 Trophy and divided by 4 = 175 points.

Because smaller Clans have a higher advantage (the lesser Members to divide the trophies, the higher the points), Clans can't eliminate members for the sake of making the Clan smaller[1], the only reasons to eliminate clannen is if they aren't participating or are breaking rules, and to an extent, if the player is using hacks to increase the trophy counter.

Schedule/Rounds

Like previous years, the tournament is separated into FOUR different rounds, each round will start on Monday at 2 PM PST and will conclude the following Monday at 12 PM PST. The two-hour break will be used to manage the brackets and announce the clans who will be moving onto the next round. During this time feel free to give your dragon some time to rest for the upcoming ride or give some pep talk to your fellow clan members.

The Tournament is divided in 4 Rounds:

# of Week Title Info
1st Pool Play The Tournament starts with all participating Clans gathering as many Trophies as possible, which can be gathered in Thunder Run Racing (most common way), Fireball Frenzy or challenge players. The name is a play on the cue sport, Pool, where players have to pocket as much balls than the opponent to win.
2nd Quarter-Finals After a week, the Top 8 Clans will be selected and will be divided in pairs of two Clans, within the pair, both Clans fight to get the hightest Trophy count to pass to the Semi-Finals.
To clear up any confusion, clan hopping is defined by joining a new clan after your clan has been ruled out from the tournament. Therefore, prior to the start of Week 2, clan members who are part of the Top 8 MUST include the Clan Name and Viking Name of all members on the "CoTC Top 8" thread, as our team will be monitoring this thread. After 1:30 PM PST on April 8th, NO MEMBER may be added into any clan. All members will be internally locked and NO changes will be made, no exceptions.

As for April 1st, 2019, a special SoD Forum post was be created[3] and the Top 8 Clans must write their Clan Name, Viking Name and Account Name, if a Clan doesn't write said information, they will be disqualified. This serves as a way to prevent players from suddenly hopping into a winning Clan.

3rd Semi-Finals The Top 4 will then be selected and still compete in pairs, as always, the Top 2 with the highest Trophy count will pass to the Finals.
4th Finals The last two Clans now fight to get the ultimate highest Trophy count for the elusive, CoTC prize. The winner is announced in another Forum post with what they won.
