Eel Hunting is a minigame introduced on December 15th, 2020, with v3.13.0 - A Messy Snoggletog Update. It replaces the Play menu and Eel Roast at once, and serves to increase the Dragon's Happiness. Similar to the Mystery Chests, eels will spawn in specific spots on certain bodies of water across the map, you will notice eels jumping out of the water similar to how fish around fishing zones do.

Types of Eel

There's a total of three types of eel: Yellow Eel, White Eel, and Electric White Eel. Each give a different amount of happiness and have a different percentage of appearing.

Eel Chance of Spawning Happiness
40% 20 Dragon Happiness
30% 40 Dragon Happiness
30% 100 Dragon Happiness

Hunting Zones

The only way to find these eels is by searching for hunting zones near bodies of water, similar to how fish can only be obtained from fishing spots . Only six locations contain these hunting zones and they're primarily next to populated locations, usually close to fishing spots or high-traffic areas. To find them, the player will see them jumping out of water and the Happiness Points will only add up once they've been shot down. If the eel gets underwater, the dragon will be unable to target them. Another way to know if there are eels nearby is by listening to a specific splash sound that continues to play in spite of the sound being turned off.

A dragon's range heavily affects the hunting, dragons with a smaller range will have more difficulties with targeting eels. If the dragon is a baby, the player has to stand close to the eels and click on the fire button that pops up.

The locations that contain these zones are The School, The Wilderness, The Lookout, Training Grounds, New Berk, and Dragon's Edge. Each locations has a total of 10 hunting zones, and once the player has shot down a eel, they will respawn within 5 minutes.

The School's hunting spots are spread across the inner area of the map, often close to Fishing Spots or other bodies of water. The main lake next to Mulch contains three hunting zones, two on the lake, and the third one on the waterfall.

Left side of the map contains two distant hunting zones, in contrasts to the opposite side which contains two relatively close hunting zones, and one on the waterfall atop of a cave entrance. Near The Lab, there's the last two remaining hunting zones.

The Wilderness is a lot simpler than the other locations as most of the hunting zones are in the main lake, close to the Fishing Spots. The remaining four are a bit more spread out, three are located along the main river, while the 4th is located on the small lake next to the forest.

The Lookout's hunting zones are similar to the Wilderness' but a lot more divided, three are close to the fishing spot next to Wartihog, two more to his left, and another three in front of the fishing spot, next to the boat docks. The remaining two are on two opposite ends, below The Farm, with the second fishing spot located right on the middle.

Training Grounds follow the same scheme as the previous two locations, most of the hunting zones are close to both the Minigame entrances, specifically Flight Club, Dragon Tactics, and Thunder Run Racing, and the fishing spots near the docks. One peculiar hunting zone is located right underneath the bridge that leads to The School's entrance. The remaining four are spread distantly across the far left beach.

New Berk's hunting zones are a bit peculiar, they are located on a specific area of the map unlike the other locations where the eels are spread around the major bodies of water. They are also not close to a fishing spot, which can make them a bit harder to find.

Most of the hunting zones are located behind The Great Hall, to the left of the freshwater fishing spot where Mulch is standing by - one of the zones have a second zone right next to it. Four of the zones are more spread out:

  • One is right behind Mulch's fishing spot;
  • Another is behind of Fishlegs' house, below the bridge;
  • The third is to the Maze entrance's right;
  • Last one is right underneath the large scalped slope.

Dragon's Edge hunting zones are well divided, five on the front and on the back. First one is next to the docked boat, two to the right and are near the coast, another two to the left and are near Mala's ships. Fly to the far back of the map and the remaining five will be there, two will be at a coast line on the right side, and the last remaining three will make a triangle - two on the freshwater lake and one on the far left tip of a coastline.
