Dragon Armor, or Flight Armor, are a type of Outfit released on June 11th, 2019, v3.1.0, on par with How To Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World. It's a complex suit filled with tough leather plates riddled with scales of the respective Dragon it represents, the design and patterns also takes cues for the represented Dragon Species or the character that's based on. Prior to April 23rd, 2020, they were 1,500 Gems (1,200 for members), now they are 1,000 Gems (800 for members)[1].

History

The first Dragon Armors to be released were the Dragon Riders' Dragon Armor, starting with Hiccup's[2] (June 11th, 2019, v3.1.0 - Fuse Update), Ruffnut's[3] (June 20th, 2019), Tuffnut's[4] (June 27th, 2019), Astrid's[5] (July 2nd, 2019), Snotlout's[6] (July 18th, 2019), and Fishlegs'[7] (September 24th, 2019). Between Snotlout's and Fishlegs' release, the first customizable Dragon Armor, Hobgobbler, was released on par with the v3.2.0 Update, Curse of the Hobgobbler (July 31st, 2019), after the final Dragon Rider Dragon Armor, the Deathgripper[8] Armor was released in November 26th, 2019.

The release has been a mixture of Store releases and Events releases, it begun with the Flightmare in October 10th, 2019, on par with Dreadfall Event 2019 and the Snow Wraith in December 12th, 2019, on par with Snoggletog Event 2019. It then would follow with Valka's[9] (May 7th, 2020), Eret's with a Thawfest Variant (Thawfest 2020), Razorwhip[10] (July 22nd, 2020), Light Fury[11] (August 23rd, 2020), and Flightmare Costume (Dreadfall Event 2020).

The Dragon Armor release went on a small halt before returning with the Stormcutter with a Thawfest Variant (Thawfest 2021) and shortly after, the Slitherwing (July 16th, 2021). Four more were released in Events, Dart, Ruffrunner, and Pouncer with Summarhildr 2021 and Fireworm Queen with Dreadfall Event 2021.

How To Use

Dragon Armor functions exactly like a Flight Suit, the player must first equip the desired Dragon Armor in the Player Customization Menu, you can choose to make it visible now or not by clicking on the eye icon near the Outfit slot. A difference between the Flight Suit and Dragon Armor is the ability to hide the helmet, this means you can glide and use the Dragon Armor without the helmet just like how the Dragon Riders were able to in How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World; althought the Flight Suit can also hide the helmet, it doesn't fully hide the current Avatar's hat and mask, whereas the Dragon Armor replaces both the helmet and mask at once. Just like the Flight Suit, if you purchase or receive a recent Dragon Armor, it will automatically equip it and if the Dragon Armor hasn't been equipped and preloaded, it will take longer to load the Armor once you trigger it.

The functionality regarding its usage in the Hub world is the same, the player must fly with their Dragon to till the Flight Suit icon pops in, clicking on that button will trigger the Dragon Armor and the player will begin to glide with the Dragon following you; the animation detail also functions the same. To regain altitude, the player can re-mount the Dragon at any time, and once the Dragon Armor has been triggered, there should be a button that takes it off once you landed (see: Bugs section). While the Flight Suit walks with the membranes already active, the Dragon Armor only toggles the membranes when you're gliding.

Likewise, the player can also glide without the need of a Dragon if the Dragon Armor is already equipped, the player can glide anywhere with exception of:

As Flight Suit

Dragon Armor functions exactly like a Flight Suit when gliding, for more information on Gliding with an Armor or Flight Suit, head over to Flight Suit's Gliding section.

As Battle Equipment

With the same functionality as Battle Equipment, Dragon Armor will always come with a Tier, a Rarity, and a set of Dragon Tactics stats (Attributes) with the Attribute's value (Current) and Range depending on the Tier and Rarity. The Dragon Armor's Stat value is applied to the Viking's stats of the corresponding section once its equipped, both visible and invisible; you can re-roll stat value to increase the Attribute's Current and re-roll item to replace the current Attributes at the Blacksmith.

For a rundown of all the Dragon Armor's Tier, Rarity, and Stats, head over to Battle Equipment's Dragon Armor subpage.

Trivia

  • In the game file, there's Detail Textures and Color Masks of Hiccup's Dragon Armor, perhaps implying Dragon Armors were meant to be customizable until it was scrapped and only applied to the Hobgobbler Armor.
  • Re-mounting after using the Dragon Armor on a mission dragon will make you mount your own dragon instead.
    • This doesn't affect the mission.
